Unfortunately the Standard Variety of Poodles have many health issues at this time. Testing all breeding stock is vital to help insure dogs that are not clear/normal in testing are not used for breeding. Breeders who say they don't have to do the testing are NOT helping the breed. Many of the health issues lay silent and parents may be carriers. Without knowledge of what they are clear or carriers there is no way to know for sure HOW to breed a particular dog or bitch.

BACKGROUND: Our involvement in canine care and breeding spans over 25 years. Through the years, our familiarity with all dog breeds led us to know that the Standard Poodle was the dog for us. Our application of holistic methods of caring for our poodles set us apart from other breeders. We recognize that, in order to get a good start, puppies have physical, emotional and spiritual needs. We have originated breeder education programs and wellness programs that have raised the bar on the care and raising of poodle puppies. We know education is the key if our breed is to continue to flourish.
A GOOD START: We do genetic testing on our dogs before they are bred. This ensures that we will not pass potential weaknesses within the line. We start working with our puppies immediately upon birth to ensure they are social and trustworthy. This makes a superior adult dog that will be loyal, fun and intelligent. Our pure bred beauties are all AKC registered champion lines.
FOOD/EXERCISE: All of our poodles are fed all natural, organic food to help them stay healthy and give them the best start in life possible. Daily exercise on our spacious lawn-covered grounds gives our puppies an extra advantage for agility and social skills. Additionally, behavioral development excercises are given from Day 3 to give them an early start on good temperament.
TRAINING: Grooming and housebreaking start at 4 weeks of age, so that our pups have a head start on what will become a life-long routine. This helps to decrease stress when your puppy is getting used to his/her new surroundings.
HOME-RAISED: Our pups are home-raised and we never have more than one litter at a time. This way each puppy gets the attention he or she needs to form a steady temperament as an adult.

Miniature poodles receive eye exams by a veterinarian who is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists as well as a DNA test for progressive retinal atrophy. They also are screened for hip dysplasia, legg calve perthes, patellar luxation, thyroid malfunction, and Von Willebrands disease.
Standard Poodles are tested for hip dysplasia using the OFA or Penn Hip method and also receive eye exams by a veterinarian who is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Standards also receive a complete blood work up to screen for thyroid malfunction, Addison's Disease, and juvenile renal disease. They also receive DNA testing for Von Willebrands disease.

Health testing of any kind is appropriate and warranted, but health issues are not always matters that are detectable early in a Standard Poodles life.
We have chosen our poodles from healthy, tested and proven lineage to increase the odds in a long, healthy and productive lives for all of our standard Poodles.
Because we believe so very strongly in what we do and this is our labor of love, we offer a lifetime genetic health guarantee on our poodles.
Should one of our puppies or adults develop a common genetic illness as diagnosed by a veterinary specialist, we will replace the puppy or refund the purchase price upon return of the puppy. If the puppy is not to be returned, we will refund 50% of the purchase price.

Currently breeding the sixth generation of Tiara CHIC designated Standard Poodles, the Reeds place a great concern for increased/maintained longevity averages in their line of handsome, winning Poodles.
CHIC is an acronym for Canine Health Information Center and every shopper of any breed of dog or cat should be made aware of the great information that can be gleaned from that database.
The Tiara Poodles are reared holistically and the breeders are currently feeding the third generation fed a raw diet. New owners are encouraged to rear their dogs the same and there is an extensive network or "clan" as they refer to themselves of the Tiara Poodle owners.
Public education is a primary focus and new fanciers are encouraged to become involved in dog sports. The Tiara Poodles are very athletic and can be seen winning in agility trials in several regions of the United States.
Coefficiencies of inbreeding (COIs) are produced at under 6 % for 10 generations at Tiara. The average in Std Pdls is now at or just over 20% for 10 generations. The Std Pdl gene pool is thought to be shrinking.

Health Screening: Yes
We use the following Health Screening procedures: No Shortcuts! Standard Poodle CHIC requirements accomplished on all dogs to be used for breeding, OFA evaluation and/or PennHip evaluation, YEARLY CERF evaluations and results registered, Autoimmune thyroiditis OFA evaluation from an approved laboratory, Sebaceous Adenitis OFA evaluation by approved lab.
ADDITIONALLY - most dogs of modern times bred by Tiara are also given these health screenings with results registered on www.offa.org: Patella, Shoulders, von Williebrands DNA, Cardiac and we are beginning to donate DNA Samples for Canine Health Research through CHIC.
We have given Personality Profiles to three generations. Important is what we do to maintain health and that includes rearing the dogs on a no grain diet, limiting vaccines and caring for the dogs holistically. All of our personal dogs are kept in beautiful condition and professionally groomed several times each month.
A record 40 Std Pdls have been designated CHIC that were bred by Tiara Poodles; the first of these over six generations ago was born in 1984. Only dogs designated CHIC have been used since for breeding by Tiara. Foundation breeding stock fully genetically tested as are any outside stud dogs.
In my 10+ years of breeding experience, I have found that concentration on basic issues, on a consistent basis produces healthy, happy pups. As simple as this seems, unfortunately many dogs do not receive this important basic care, and end up at the Vet's office. Excellent human-grade nutrition, including lots of raw, meaty bones, daily free-range exercise in the company of other dogs and simply being there for my dogs, produces superior health and temperaments. I attempt to minimize interaction with Vets, am there to hold the paw of one who is injured until healed and in general, don't administer anything to a dog that I wouldn't put in my own body. Common sense concepts, consistently practiced.

We are a small breeder of quality standard poodles. We breed for ourselves, not to populate the pet market. We certainly do NOT breed or condone the "doodle" fad.
Our 4 legged "kids" are Champions from Champions, they are whelped and raised in our home (no kennel) and sleep on our bed at night. We consider health, temperament, beauty and brains to be of utmost importance.
Keeping the "kids" busy is a full time job, we start with early neurological stimulation and much socializing. We show in the conformation ring and then we do agility. We have dabbled in tracking and herding. We have been involved with kids programs, 4H and some therapy work.
